Q: On the bottle it says not to mix with water.  I want to use this for my pool lines in the event there is any water left in the pipes. If the bottle indicates it can expand and harden within mixed with water what exactly is the point of antifreeze?

  • A: This stuff is meant to replace (or displace) water, not as an additive to make water not freeze. One place it really works is with sinks and toilets and tubs in a summer residence, where you need *something* to fill the traps over winter. Pour enough of this in to displace all the water, so the trap is full of pure antifreeze, and you're good. For supply lines, or holding tanks, the best solution by far is to drain them at low points or blow them out and have confidence they're dry. If you can't be sure, then flushing with antifreeze is additional peace of mind. But it's up to you to judge that you've flushed enough through that the lines are 100% antifreeze.

Q: Somebody got excited and bought this instead of windshield wiper fluid, can it be used as windshield antifreeze?

2 Answers
  • A: Do not use it as wiper fluid. Just because it’s non toxic doesn’t mean you should introduce it to the environment. Also, it won’t clean your windshield, and will likely leave a hard to remove film. I’m sure CT will exchange if it’s unopened. If you’ve opened it, there’s plenty of people who will take it off your hands.
