I won’t ever buy again

I always used to buy Pro-mix orchid soil, but since I can’t find it anywhere to purchase in store I had to resort to buying this miracle grow orchid bark. The quality of MG compared to what I used to buy is terrible. The bark is thin and small and it’s mostly filled with shredded bits or peat moss. The main reason I’m writing this review is to warn others of the unholy amount of fungus gnats this soil contains. I’ve been in a losing battle since November when I transplanted some plants into bigger pots. They’re everywhere and are resistant. STERILIZE THIS SOIL BEFORE USE. Please Canadian Tire, bring back Pro-Mix orchid bark!!!

The orchids will thank you be careful getting pots with holes in the bottom for drainage.
And getting rid of old soil.
One bag is enough to do 4 into large ceramic pots.

Q: I bought two bags and found they had fungus gnats after replanting. Now I am dealing with an infestation. What can I do?

A: Try using fly cards or paper to catch the adults and to kill the larva (they live in the damp and decaying substrate) cut back on watering for a bit. I would try getting some more substrate (drier if you can) and repotting your orchid/ affected plants and throw out the old stuff to cut off further breeding. If you want some more info on orchids try the American Orchid Association; they have some great material in general but also specifically about these pests.
