Pricey but worth it.

Great detector a bit pricey but well worth the cost. They do come up on sale at CTC periodically so watch for them. Even if you don't need one now, eventually you will have to replace the unit, we have several located in strategic positions in the home, the first unit lasted 8 years before it started to chirp every 30 seconds to indicate it was time for a new one. Others we had purchased at the same time are still going strong after year 9. I have purchased 2 new ones on sale roughly for the cost of one new one, when they went on sale a few months ago.

Bad product.

I bought this product about 5 years ago. It supposed to last 10 years but is already dead. It emits a beep every few seconds even if placed outside the house with clean air and new batteries. I even removed batteries and replaced, it did the same. That means it's a false alarm. It indicates that it's time to buy a new one. False advertisement! I will not buy again from Garisson.

Q: I'm buying two of these today - I have a bungalow - one upstairs, one downstairs - any particular place they should go - i.e. laundry room where the furnace is and ktichen??

  • A: When there is a negative pressure in the house (kitchen exhaust fan on high or a door open maybe, and the hot water tank (same floor) is firing, I could smell natural gas exhaust in the laundry room. I wondered why the CO alarm did not go off as the fumes were obviously back flushing into the house due to the negative pressure. But there could have been other reasons why the alarm did not go off such as the dilution rate was high by the time the mix got to the monitor, if it got there at all. I think it is a good idea to have the monitor fairly close to the natural gas fired tank, but obviously not right beside it..

Q: do you have to plug it in to an electrical plug or can you just install the batteries and put it on a table anywhere

2 Answers
  • A: Yes you can just install the batteries and leave it anywhere; it's been working well for over a year now; a light blinks once per minute so you can check periodically that it's still working

1 Answer

Q: What is the PPM on this?

1 Answer
  • A: This alarm meets CSA 6.19 which requires it to simulate the absorption rate of the human body. The alarm will sound based on concentration over time, thus at the minimum of 70 ppm, it will sound the alarm within 1 to 4 hours. At 150ppm, it will sound within 15-55 minutes and at 400 ppm, it will sound between 4-15 minutes.

Q: I see where several people have installed this in their RVs, bought one for my camper. But reading the manual, it states "not suitable for use in an RV". So is it, or not?

1 Answer
  • A: None of the Kidde alarms havae been submited for certification for RVs. They are manufactured for use in houses and the expected environmental conditions that come with that. RV use could see false alarms and chirps associated with inconsistent temperatures and humidity levels. CO alarms cannot sit unpowered for months at a time - they will lose some capabilities over time.

Q: Is the “power” indicator light suppose to be on Or lit up when working properly ?

1 Answer
  • A: The power light will flash on and off to say it is receiving power. Only plug in units will have a steady power light. if you can't see it... it may be because it is very fast. You may need to see it in a dark environment to very it is flashing. however the best way to know if it is working is to press the test button.

Translate with Google
1 Answer
