Once Reliable, Now Unusable — Needs Investigation

I’ve been buying this charcoal for over 10 years without a single complaint. In the last year, the quality has become atrocious. Massive chunks of uncooked wood, tons of tiny pieces and dust, uneven limbs, and scraps everywhere. It no longer burns hot and clean — now it sparks, smokes, and feels like it isn’t even fully carbonized. Something has clearly changed with this company. The website listed on the bag has been dead since 2016, and there’s no way to contact the manufacturer. Very suspicious. I just stocked up with 10 bags for the cottage (always from the same Canadian Tire outlet), and this batch is the same garbage I bought 4 months ago. Someone from Canadian Tire needs to investigate the importer. It seems highly questionable - possibly even illegal — for a product to be sold without genuine contact information on the packaging. At this point I even wonder if the wood is truly mesquite.

Not as good as before in regard to the pieces. The latest bag I bought had small pieces and dust in the bottom half of the bag. Took a long time to light up.

Q: Can these be used in a charcoal BBQ, more precisely the Weber One Touch Master BBQ… to heat up the BBQ & to cook? Or do we need to buy regular briquettes too?

A: Dear Bibi, I've been using Nature's Grilling Mesquite Lump Charcoal with complete satisfaction for cooking many many pleasant barbecues. It can last three hours if you do it right. I have never seen a better product. I like it so much that I bought twelve bags (really!) at the beginning of this season because they ran out at the end of last one. However, I do not have the One Touch Master BBQ and cannot therefore respond more precisely to your specific question. Enjoy.
