Exactly what I was looking for!

First, I would like to mention that I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews / forums before before buying these Walkie Talkie. I can tell that i'm not disapointed at all. Once i've read all the included instruction booklet and tried all the available features, they are defenitly easy to operate! The size and shape fits perfectly in my hands.
My main usage is for rock climbing, camping and skiing and they are a really nice tools for these purposes. The sound is crisp and CLEAR!!
I'm totally satisfied compared to my previous cheaper radio!

Great Comparatively to other FRS/GMRS Radios

I believe these are great if you compare them to other models & to what FRS/GMRS radios are really able to do range wise. I've used these at camp grounds with great success. Specially when using the higher power GMRS channels & using privacy codes which are easy to set. We can get over 1 km range before any breaking up or static in thick wooded camp grounds which is good for these types of radios. I've verified the range with Google earth after our trips also, not just guessing range. I haven't tested them in quiet talk mode so I can't comment on that.
These are great to stay in touch if your kids head out on their own while camping.
Our only concern are the belt clips, but they do have a sturdy loop to clip a short rope which can be clipped to your belt or backpack to prevent losing them due to the belt clip breaking.
Overall, we are very satisfied with these radios.

I purchased a set of these on Friday and they are being returned Monday.
I could see the guy on the other radio but communication was all broken up. 56KM? MABEY 56 meters I was really disappointed as the saw the ratings and felt there was some hope for a decent radio.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Yes, they're waterproof!

I bought these on sale, so that my wife could feel more at ease when I'd go out on the lake with my canoe. I'd just let her know that everything was ok when I was out of sight. As I was taking off one afternoon, large waves started to come in and I actually sank in about 6 feet of water. The walkie talkie I had with me was floating around and I started by getting the canoe to shore before wading back out to get it. It was still on and working just fine! The farthest I've had to communicate was about 1.5 km across a lake and it worked perfectly. I might get a chance to try 3 km next year. The automatic squelch is perfect, not a sound from the unit unless I'm actually receiving something. The weather radio also worked well.

Nice BUT!

The range of these radios is greatly exaggerated. One kilometer is a more realistic experience. Waterproof feature is great especially if you keep these around for family emergencies. Keep a handful of spare alkaline batteries, the rechargeable can die quickly during heavy use.

A: They would be fine. I bought a set spring 2014, and they have spent 2 summers in our boats and tackle boxes, rain or shine. And they always worked flawlessly. Make sure the gasket on the back is placed properly and the screw tight.

A: You can buy 5 watt Midland G.M.R.S. Radios that operate on all the same frequencies as these 2 watt Motorolas. I have a pair of 5 watt Midlands myself. As well as a pair of these Motorolas as well. They basically put out the same range though. Distance when communicating depends more upon the surrounding vegetation and buildings and hills. If you were on the top of a highrise building..then the 5 watt midlands would go further with a clear "line of sight". I use these Motorolas when hunting with my brother, they are good quality radios and I recommend them highly. Here's a paragraph off the Canadian FCC Website: "In addition, there is a strong likelihood that most, if not all, mass-market and consumer-based GMRS radios will be manufactured to an output power of 2 watts, or less, Effective Radiated Power #ERP#. While GMRS radios are permitted to have an output power of up to 5 watts ERP, such higher power will likely be more suited to business applications. This increased power of GMRS compared to FRS, affords a greater distance for communication among users." Hope this helps! :o) Aries.
