Not as smart as you might think

Not as automatic as is suggested. It defaults to AGM for example, even if it’s a regular lead acid battery- resulting in a possibility of overcharging. There’s no indication if it reduces charging amperage (as older style did/does) as it gets closer to a full charge. Overall - not impressed at all really

Useless and not pratical

Not a pratical or useful charger.. can't bypass the desulfating step so it's useless for 10 hours if it starts.. a complete waste of money if you just need to recharge a battery with this thing... Maybe it's broken, will try to return it... In the end, for me it's a "Don't buy."

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry the charger didn’t meet your expectations. The DE sulfation mode is an important feature designed to help extend battery life by breaking down lead sulfate crystals that can reduce performance over time. This process can take several hours but helps improve long-term battery health. Our customer service team is always available to assist with operating the unit or troubleshooting before you return it. Please contact us at 800-621-5485—we’re here to help. schumacher

More durable with a steel cover and straight forward. Definitely a step up from the plastic covered version that looks like it came from a McDonald's Happy Meal.

Why I like my battery charger

The percentage of battery prior to charging and the fully percentage when charged very useful feature. Being able to adapt the charger to various batteries and slow or quick charge great features.

Questions

Q: Just bought this charger. Connected to SUV battery rated at 600 CCA and set battery type to normal and 15A mode. Charged to 100% & green light came on.  The whole time the output voltage stayed at 16.1 volts, even in maintain mode.  Is charger faulty?

  • A: Hi again, just to correct the info in the last sentence of my previous post. The default setting of the battery charger is 15 amps. (This is used for power boosting up a flat battery.) Follow the “How to” in the written instructions and switch the power supply to 3 amps for trickle charge. You have to search the instructions a little to get this info. But 3 amps is the correct setting for trickle charge. Also for pease of mind the charger has a micro compressor that switches off the charge when the battery is fully charged. And.. would I recommend it. Definitely. It’s simple to use, a good price and has worked perfectly for me non stop for the past 6 months. Nov 2020 - March 2021.

Q: Just charged my first battery with 011-1978-2, charger worked good. Why does it say 'store in upright position' ?

3 Answers
  • A: Minimal care can keep your battery charger working correctly for years. The manufacturer recommends storing the charger unplugged from the AC power outlet in an upright position to prevent accidental damage to the cords and charger. You can reach our customer support at 800-621-5485 if you have further questions about this product.

Q: Hi this charger have 3 settings; Normal, AGM, Gel Which setting we should use while using charger. Thanks

3 Answers
  • A: You should use the setting appropriate for the battery being charged. Normal is for a 'standard' acid flooded battery found in most cars. AGM is a different type of car or marine battery and should have "AGM" found on the battery. GEL would also be found on the battery labeling if it applies...

Q: This charger has boiled 3 different batteries. I just measured a lead acid battery at 12.6V before charging. Charger said this was 67%. Tried charging at 15A could immediately hear gas being released. Charge voltage was over 16V. Is this normal or faulty?

  • A: Make sure you also select NORMAL for almost All Batteries!

Q: I bought this charger for my 6 volt deep cycle batteries on my motorhome class a coach. Is the the right one?

3 Answers
  • A: I use it to trickle charge my standard 12 volt car battery. Check the instructions to see if the charge can be lowered/switched to 6 volt. If not. Don’t use it as it may burn out the 6 volt battery.

Q: Is anyone else having issues with the Alternator % feature of this device? I follow the manual word by word but when I get to pick that feature the device goes from %battery charge to Voltage directly and not to the option to see the Alternator %.

  • A: With the charger is unplugged from AC power. Connect the clamps to the battery first, then plug the charger into AC power. Start the vehicle, rev the engine at 2000 rpm for 30 seconds and turn on the vehicle’s headlights or other accessories. The alternator reading will be shown as a % (unless the charging system is actually malfunctioning in which case it will read LO or HI). If you're still having troubles, feel free to contact 1-800-528-6817 for assistance.

Q: The manual says that for charging the battery in the car you attach the negative black to the battery and the red positive to the chassis. When I do this the E04 error comes up. Cables reversed.

  • A: The passage in the manual you are referencing is specifically for Positive Ground systems. Positive Ground systems are extremely rare. The vast majority of vehicles in North America use a Negative Ground. Please reference the passage for Negative Ground systems (which instructs to connect the red clamp to the positive battery terminal).
