    Does not cut straight

I've had this saw for a few years and it works fine for home jobs but it does not cut straight. I've wasted a number of tiles trying to manipulate the position of the tile for a straight cut because the two fence parts for the tile to usually rest against are not in alignment with one another and creep out so you get angled cuts. By the time I realized it wasn't human error, the warranty was expired. Now I'm trying to use it again, and it's so frustrating and I'm hesitant to start risking expensive tile sthat need to be cut. I can't find any online fixes either :(

    Yes, I recommend this product.

    Good saw, but bad size

Just bought one, hoping I can cut/rip 24" tiles, but it is short of about 2 inches. Very disappointing. :(

No, I do not recommend this product.

    Moteur ....

Great value. Adjust the fence before first use!

Purchased this saw several weeks ago to tile a tub surround. It's done a great job working with fragile ceramic subway tile. The frame is easy to remove from the tub for cleaning. Note that like a table saw, the fences must be squared to the blade prior to first use if you want accurate cuts. A bit noisy (expected for this type of motor) and the blade lubrication system works well. The mess is well contained within the tub. Draining is easy by placing the tub over a 5 gallon bucket and pulling the drain plug.

Good saw not so good blade

The stock blade has an uneven rim, and chips tile on the upturn, It's definitely a good idea to invest in a better blade. The saw cuts straight, and it's a good deal when it's on special. I also took the pump out of the pan and stuck it in a clean water source to extend the life of the pump.

    Questions

    1 - 10 of 38 Questions

Q: What is the max tile size that will fit? The frame and brackets seem like they would limit the size of tile that could be cut - I am considering an 18" square floor tile for an upcoming project, would this tile size fit through this saw?

A: When operating the saw per the instructions (pushing the saw forward) 18" is about it, however an approx 21" length can fit if you choose to pull the saw toward you instead. Put a little more water in the tray to dip the spinning blade to lubricate it (the water pump feeds the side of the blade away from you). It's a little messier and more difficult to keep things square but 21" is doable in a pinch.

Q: How do you get the flanges for a 5/8" arbor? I called 1-800-689-9928 to order these flanges but they couldn't help. If there is a part number or something I would appreciate it. The 7/8 arbor that comes with the unit is difficult to find saw blades for cutting special items like glass. This has been the only downside to the unit so far.

Q: wet saw isnt cutting the same on both sides I just bought a 7in sliding wet tile saw from Mastercraft. The saw is leaving one side perfectly cut but the other side is chipped and ragged. Tried a few different things but nothing has changed and we have already ruined 5 tiles.

A: I found that the chipping typically occurs on the unsupported side so I hold on to that side and keep it against the blade.

Q: A number of reviews identify problems wrt straight cut alignment. Has MasterCraft done anything in terms of design to address/resolve this issue? Also, will this saw cut at 45 degrees for 16" tiles?

    2 Answers

A: All you need to do is loosen the bolts that are attached at the front and the back of the saw which is attached to the tray. You will also need to loosen the bolts that are used as the stops for angle cutting. Do not use a square. I found it easier to use a 12"x24" tile.

Q: the Mastercraft 7" slide tile saw doesn't start I used the Mastercraft 7" slide tile saw a coupe a of weeks ago. Everything was fine. the power is good. The reset was tried. Still not working

A: This happened to me. It appears that the spring that pushes the carbon brush onto the rotor became overheated and lost its elasticity (i.e. it became stiff and brittle). Since the spring is integrated into the brush the unit will need to be replaced. This was not very expensive and the folks at the 1-800 number were very helpful to order another one. Fortunately the design of the motor is such that accessing the brushes is only a few seconds work (unlike most motors I've worked on!). Just remove the 4 screws that hold the cover on (they are on the opposite side of the motor that the blade is on) and then pull off the brush assembly on each side. The "bad" brush will be the one that doesn't spring back when you push it in :)

Q: Assembly The manual indicates you need to do the following 2 steps: 1) attach handle to saw 2) attach pump to the tray The pump was already attached to the tray - is this correct (and the manual is wrong) or did I get someone else's returm?

    2 Answers

A: Pump was already attached for me... had the new tool smell so I know it wasn't a return. :-)
