Instructions are not to use until required in an emergency so I can only go by the instructions which are pretty straightforward.

J'ai du le retourner après avoir vérifier si l'échelle s'installait dans la fenêtre de ma chambre. Mon mur a plus de 12" d'épaisseur et sur la boite c'était écrit 11" maximum, il était impossible de l'utiliser.

A: You can practice hooking it over the window sill. You are not supposed to release the ladder - presumably this is because the webbing of the ladder is folded correctly and there is no guarantee that the user will be able to refold it properly to get a tangle free deployment in the event of an actual emergency.

Q: I am considering purchasing for emergency exit from an upper level, outdoor deck. Will this ladder work when hooked over the metal and glass deck railing, when there is no wall under the deck, unlike a window in the side of a house?

Q: What size window sill is required for this ladder, one of the reviews said 12 inches. How do you measure this I can't see a normal window having a depth of 12 inches. Thanks

A: The product specifications aren't clear. I measured the ladder, and it work apparently on an 8" thick wall (possibly thicker), but with window sill trim, it can slide over 12 to 13 inches total because of the radius on the brackets. It hooks over the inside and outside sill trim, and rests against the inside and outside finished walls on most windows. Worked well for us on an older home design with a window in a gable end of the roof.

Q: Do you have 3-storey escape ladders I understand KIDDE Canada makes escape ladders for 2-storey and 3-storey homes. I am looking to purchase the 3-storey model, but do not see it on this website. Do you stock this item, or can it be special order? Please advise, thanks!

A: The ladders can carry up to 900 pounds at a time. We do recommend having one person at a time if possible to ensure no one affects another's ability to climb down.

A: Yes it is a single use item. The ladder is folded is such a way to ensure a full and proper deployment in an emergency. Trying to refold it is very much like a parachute, there is no guaranty that it will open fully and properly in an emergency situation when you have no time to problem solve a tangled ladder..

A: The ladders are packaged to deploy correctly in an emergency. Once deployed and much like a parachute, if it is not folded exactly as needed, there is no guarantee that it will deploy correctly. It is assumed that if the ladder is needed in an emergency, there is unlikely to be any time available to untangle the ladder and use it to get out. Note: Studies have shown that on average, once the smoke alarms sound off in a fire, you have a maximum of 3 minutes to be able to get out.

Ne jamais tester déployer ces échelles.
