You are correct, the ice storage area is not refrigerated. It is intended that ice produced be periodically transferred to zipperlock bags for storage in a conventional freezer.

Owned it since October 11, but it stopped working. Contacted Frigidaire support and was told I need to go through another support team, awaiting their email response.
No, I do not recommend this product.
