    Must have workshop tool.

It does a spectacular job of sharpening drill bits accurately and consistently. I have sharpened bits as small as 4mm all the way up to 12mm bits. Bits that were burnt, chipped and just dull ended up with a perfect new edge and the angles were correct every time. There is a knack to doing it right and you need to read the instructions. Once you figure out what is going on and how to use it. Your drill bits will be like new. The difference between a dull bit and a newly sharpened bit when drilling through wood or mild steel is instantly noticeable. The bit tracks well, the chips are consistent on both sides, and it goes through the material like butter.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Je connaissais cette affûteuse et voulait en acheter une autre pour l'offrir en cadeau à mon fils. Cela a pris 3-4 reprises pour finir à l'ajuster afin qu'elle aiguise comme il faut. Mais là elle est ajustée.

    Q: what # is this sharpener, 350, 500, 750?

    • A: The answer given here might have been correct in October but is not correct as of Dec 22, 2016. I just opened up the box which on the outside says "XPC" so I thought I was buying the "Canadian Tire sku version". On the side of the actual Drill Doctor it only says XP and the bottom sticker just says "XP". So it is not closer to the 500x model as mentioned in the October answer...it is just its own model ... that being an actual Drill Doctor XP.

Q: Does the XP model come with a new extra sharpening wheel? Does CTC carry new replacement sharpening wheels for these models? Where to buy?

    • A: I do love Canadian Tire but I would never buy one of these specialty tools again from them. Why? Because they don't stock simple replacement parts like grinding wheels for these tools (mine was different, not this specific tool). One of my recent purchases was returned 2 days after buying it for the very reason that I could not get a replacement part, which immediately renders these specialty tools useless. I spoke to 2 people at the store I bought it from and eventually had to call the Mastercraft 800 number. No replacement parts available for the tool I bought (not this particular one). I just want to let people know to check if basic replacement parts are available before buying ANY of these tools. If not, they are literally one-shot throw away tools. You are better off buying new drill bits than wasting your time re-sharpening bits on a tool that has no replacement parts.

Q: What is the longest drill bit that can be sharpened? Typically we use 18 inch drill bits.

    2 Answers
    • A: From what I've seen the real question is diameter. It grips the bit right near the point so I suppose it could sharpen any length of bit, so long as it's within the diameter range (which I think goes from 3/32 to 1/2).

Q: what is difference between x and xpc model

    1 Answer
    • A: Canadian Tire offers both the 350X and the Xp model. Both machines sharpen 3/32 to ½ inch drill bits, have a diamond wheel and create a 118 degree point angle. The XP with create or resharpen a split point. This is used for drill into hard material such as metal without the need for piloting or dimpling the hole first. In addition the XP can adjust the relief angle, allowing the operator to control material take of rate during drilling. Over all, the XP offers more flexibility in the types of drills used for a variety of material.
