Champion 9000W/11000W Dual Fuel Portable Power Generator with CO Shield & Electric Start

Finally received my inverter generator! Extremely satisfied so far, was able to start it easily, running on propane. Instructions were clear for initial setup. The noise level is acceptable, i walked a few steps around the house while it was running, and you can barely hear it from the neighbors. I almost can't wait for the next snow storm or power outage to hook it up to my emergency panel, to keep my family safe and sound.

I bought this generator about a month ago and I have about 50 hours on it. We live in a solar powered off grid home in Northern Ontario. Our main backup generator has been an installed 12kw diesel unit, but it had to come off line this fall for some maintenance and we needed something to power the house and charge the batteries on those low sun days we get this time of year, until we can get the diesel unit back on line. This generator has stepped up to the challenge and worked flawlessly. We put it on line for 2 - 3 hrs at a time, pulling around 5kw @ 240V, and it performs perfectly. The reason we spent the money and went with an Inverter generator is that regardless of the load, this unit supplies 240V @ 60hz to the house with no fluctuation. Much better for all your electronics. Standard generators with mechanical governors will vary the voltage and frequency with the load, and at a 5kw load on a regular 10K generator, the frequency will be significantly less than 60hz. Not a great situation, but we don't have to worry about that with this unit. Also, the generator is reasonably quiet for a generator this size as well. I should mention that if you are going to use one of these generators like this, maintenance will be key to good performance. We ran the included oil for the 5 hr break in period, then switched to 5W30 full synthetic oil. Changed the oil again at 25hrs just because, and will now change it @ 50hrs, and every 50hrs when I clean the air filter, as specified in the manual for use under heavier loads. We will switch back to our diesel generator when its ready, due to the much lower fuel consumption and longer maintenance intervals, but we could easily continue with this unit if needed. It gets cold up here in the winter, and it is nice to have high quality back-up power at the ready when we need it. Overall, we are very happy that we went with this unit, and it has met or exceeded all our expectations. Highly recommended!

The first generator I bought of this model was a lemon. Wouldn't start. I worked with Champion support to try and fix it, but to no avail. I returned item to Canadian Tire and ended up buying another one. It's too bad it's not sold in stores, so I had to buy online again. I love this model because it is dual fuel, has 11000 / 9000 watts, enough to power the house. I got it just in time for the power outage in the West Island and it powered my house for all the outlets, wifi, TV, two fridges and a freezer, and hot water tank. We didn't power the stove, washer dryer, baseboard heaters, or microwave. The CO2 shield works great. I had placed it under the deck and there wasn't enough air circulation, and the alarm went off, and it shut off. I moved it in to the open, and it was great. Despite the heavy weight of the generator, the wheels help to move it easily. What I also like is that it is very quiet, which is great for us as well as our neighbors. All in all, despite getting a lemon the first time around, the 2nd one is just great. I do have a suggestion for Canadian Tire though - allow for shipping to home with no extra fee. I had to go to Canadian Tire to pick up for free, but home delivery would be an extra $120. Why that is, I don't know. Anyway, I saved the money and picked it up at the store.
