Not overly impressed

I mixed it with a power tool for over 15 minutes. Applied it was evenly as possible. Waited 72 before parking on it, and one of the tires took it right off right down to the bare asphalt, so the driveway is not sealed properly now

Driveway seal

As already prepared for, the area indicated is off for sure, even the explanation from the manufacturer is, that more has been absorbed on the driveway which is maybe half and half, it dries to less than a hard surface desire, but at like 5% rubbery

This sealer was a real pain to mix properly and therefore application was very difficult.

Very blotchy. I did a good job mixing it before starting to apply.

Worked for us

We used this product and are satisfied with it suggest turning pails upside down for at least 5 days to help with mixing. You will need drill with asphalt mixer end. Worst part of this project is getting it mixed well 5-10 minutes Don’t no how good it last. You will need more pails than they say. Covers about 250 sq feet per mail.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: How come this product smell so bad? When I open the lid, it smells like sewage.

4 Answers
  • A: I wouldn't say it smells like sewage but it definitely has a tar-like odour. That smell is the combination of ingredients that makes the sealer as effective as it is.

Q: Can i use a regular paint roller with this product? and will Canadian tire mix it for me when i purchase?

4 Answers
  • A: A driveway roller gets into cracks of asphalt for good sealing. Depending on store I would ask them to stir. Best to pour a little then spread. I use a yogurt container.

Q: Can product be used to cove original concrete driveway, not stamped concrete just regular

  • A: Even though Airport Plus Asphalt Driveway Sealer is supposed to last 5 years, I have to redo my asphalt riveway every two years. After the second year, you can start to see the original asphalt peeking through as it just wears off from the elements and from shovelling and using the snowblower in the winter. It was always applied correctly when no rain expected and at the right temperatures. My neighbour applied the Canadian Tire 8 year sealer and it only lasted a couple years. He then applied the cheapest sealer from Canadian Tire and found it lasted about the same period. Another neighbour spent the $1,500 to get it done by a commercial driveway sealing company and now after 4 years, you can start to see some of the original asphalt peeking through. There are better sealers for concrete than asphalt driveway sealer as this product is black. If you apply it to concrete it will be more noticeable when the black sealer wears out as the concrete is a lighter colour than asphalt.

Q: My asphalt driveway is a year old. I want to seal it to prevent more weeds from popping through but there are some areas that are not totally packed down and have loose pieces. Will this product work and is it best to use a roller or a squeegee?

2 Answers
  • A: Use a squeegee. Clean surface before applying. Blow dust away, cut weeds. Will last 3 years without problems.

  • A: It goes on looking a dark chocolate brown but does harden to a very dark brown, black-like matte finish.

Q: Airport+ All Season Driveway Sealer on Concrete? Can I use this product on a stamped concrete driveway?

  • A: My personal 20+ yrs experience with BK tar sealer products: If it spills on sidewalk, it seems to adhere strongly for many years unless removed quickly when wet or sanded afterwards with a rectifier once dried. This does not mean it should be used on concrete but just to let you know. Also it has adhered very strongly for 24 years to the concrete foundation of my garage door where I spilled some and also to the concrete box (and its rusted perforated metal lid) of my driveway drain in front of my garage door. In fact I apply it on purpose on the drain plate (lid )to hide the rust.

Q: Can this sealer be used on brand new asphalt or should the driveway sit a year before use

2 Answers
  • A: From 20+yrs experience of 7 applications of Black Knight tar products: A new driveway entrance does not need to be sealed right away. It still repels water. Sealing it too soon would be a waste of time and money. Generally speaking asphalt of a driveway needs to age before needing application of sealer. One way to test readiness of your driveway (beside waiting at least 1 yr) is to check after at least 1 year (but no more than 3) of the new paving if water droplets pearl like quicksilver on the surface when dropped from a cup. If water soaks in readily , then apply (water based) sealer; sealer like water in the test will soak in readily too -unless there are oil stains from leaking motor of a guest ... Sometimes the OIL leak stains are difficult to clean in depth before application; radical way is to chisel them out and apply new (from 30 kg bag) patching asphalt there. I have never had any problem applying sealer on a sealer-due driveway even when some areas had been repaired the same week with fresh Sakrete type bagged asphalt (once compacted, sprinkle dry sand on top of patch to prevent stickiness) . Result is marvelous. Product adheres even there despite fresh asphalt patch. Uniform black colored asphalt entrance makes all neighbors jealous , coming to you asking questions or even to make their driveway...A great compliment.

Q: what is the best way to apply this porduct. I assume a roller but which type is best.

Q: can this be applied with a squeegee

1 Answer
  • A: Yes but it depends on the smoothness of your asphalt.  I would use a squeegee / bristle brush  combination applicator available at CTC
