Is there a difference between rock salt and ice melt?

While both are made to melt ice and snow, ice melts are ideal in temperatures below -10 degrees and are less likely to damage your landscaping or driveway. Rock salt is perfect for warmer temperatures and comes in chunks to prevent more ice from forming, but it can be harsher on stonework and concrete.

How long does it take rock salt and ice melts to work?

While both are effective at reducing ice and snow, rock salt provides almost instant traction after applied. Ice melts work faster at melting, without the instant traction.

What rock salt is safe for children and pets?
