How to choose a treadmill

A treadmill is a great investment in your health. Whether you want to walk, jog or run, there’s a model that fits your needs.

55-inch belt

Standard treadmill belts are 55 inches. These models work well for people of average height who want to walk, jog or run.

50-inch belt

If you are only going to be walking on your treadmill, you can get away with the more compact models with 50- inch belts, since your stride will be shorter.

60-inch belt

If you are taller than average or plan to run frequently on your treadmill, a 60-inch belt will be more comfortable and give you plenty of space.

Surrounding space

Don’t forget to consider the size of the room. You’ll need 2 to 3 feet on each side and in front of the treadmill, plus at least 6 feet to the rear of the machine. You’ll also want to make sure that the ceiling is high enough to accommodate your height when you’re standing on the deck of the treadmill.
