How to choose a battery platform for outdoor tools

There’s no off-season for outdoor chores in Canada. Before you decide how to power your outdoor power equipment, consider the following points.

Battery life

Consider the length of time you need the battery to run on a single charge. The amp-hour (Ah) rating measures its capacity, or “fuel tank.” Fully charged batteries with higher Ah ratings provide longer run times depending on the task. With platforms that offer a wide range of batteries, choose the proper Ah rating for your outdoor task and have backup batteries ready.

Charge time

How you work plays an important role in choosing the right platform. If you use a few tools heavily, consider a platform that offers fast-charging capability to eliminate downtime and get you back on-task quickly. If you use many tools at once, a multi-port charger provides the convenience of charging multiple batteries simultaneously.

Voltage

The voltage of the tool platform may impact performance and power. Higher voltage platforms often provide more power and improved productivity when tackling heavy-duty jobs. However, be mindful of brands with multi-voltage battery platforms, as they may not always be cross-compatible.

Many tool platforms offer a wide range of outdoor power equipment for every season, all powered by the same batteries.
