Does boxing glove size matter?
Choosing the right boxing glove size is an important step for beginner boxers. With most boxing gloves ranging from 8 oz to 20 oz, choosing the right pair comes down to your bodyweight and the size (circumference) of your dominant hand. Determining these two factors will ensure the best fit for optimal performance and help reduce injuries over time.
How are boxing gloves supposed to fit?
Once you’ve determined your correct glove size, make sure that your gloves fit snug and comfortably, with the tips of your fingers touching the top of the gloves when wearing them. When training (or just throwing a punch), proper-fitting gloves should stay firmly in place and not move around your hand.
Are boxing and MMA gloves the same?
Boxing and MMA sparring gloves are distinctly different in several ways. Boxing gloves are designed with much more padding, are bigger, weigh more, and feature a “mitten-style” enclosure to protect the fingers. Alternatively, mixed martial arts gloves are much lighter, feature less padding, and usually expose the fingers and top of the wrist, to allow for more grapple-based moves.
