What size gas tank should I buy for my boat?

The size of the gas tank you should buy depends on your marine motor's size and horsepower rating, and the length of boating trips you take.

Can you carry a gas can on a boat?

You can carry a spare gas can onboard the boat, but you'll want to make sure it's secured and closed and removed when the boat isn't in use. Refueling should always be done when moored at a dock to prevent spills and accidents. Check with your regional or provincial marine safety regulations to see what is allowed in your area.

Where should portable gas tanks be stored on a boat?

They should be stored in open air and outside of passenger compartments and secured so they can't move while the boat is traveling.

How long can gasoline be stored in a boat?

Gasoline begins to degrade around six months and will damage fuel lines and carburetors after that point. Gasoline with ethanol begins to degrade after 3 months. Adding fuel stabilizer can help gas sit without degrading for longer periods.

What is a motor flusher?

These accessories are used to flush the cooling systems of outboard and inboard marine motors with fresh water, washing away dirt and build-up to improve and maintain performance. Flushing is often done to winterize motors. Check your owner's guide to see if it's compatible with a flusher.
