Are joiners and planers the same?
Joiners and planers are not the same, though each uses a rotating cutting head to trim or cut precise amounts of wood. Planers are designed to flatten, trim, and level flat wood surfaces and have a broad cutting head that aligns with a wide flat plate. Joiners have smaller cutting heads designed to make notches at a variety of angles, to enable woodworkers to use dowels or biscuits and glue to join wood pieces securely. You can choose between corded and cordless planers that are handheld, or more powerful stationary planers, while all joiners are handheld tools, even heavyduty plate joiners.
