Can I replace my vehicle's brakes on my own?

If you’re someone who possesses mechanical skills and is comfortable doing car maintenance, you can DIY your vehicle’s brakes as long as you have the right brake parts for your car’s exact make and model and specialty tools for the job. If you're unsure about doing it yourself, your best bet is to take it to a local auto shop.

What parts do I need to change my brakes?

The parts you’ll need will depend on certain brake components that require replacement or repair. For worn brake pads and brake rotors, you’ll need to replace them with a new set, or you can opt to buy a brake kit that includes pads, rotors, and other installation hardware. Any brake lines and hoses that are cracked, swollen, or leaking must be replaced. If you notice a leaking caliper or wheel cylinder, it needs to be replaced.
