What are the types of airsoft guns?

Airsoft guns come in many different styles, sizes, and models, from single-shot handheld pistols to fully automatic rifles. Spring-powered airsoft guns use a compressed coil spring to drive a piston air pump, which then fires the projectile. Battery-powered airsoft guns use a similar spring-loaded mechanism, but instead are powered electrically through rechargeable batteries. Gas-powered airsoft guns use compressed gas to drive the firing mechanism, typically through an internal canister.

Is an air gun the same as an airsoft gun?

No. An air gun uses compressed air to fire a potentially lethal projectile with high pressure, while airsoft guns are most commonly powered by springs or batteries and therefore are far less powerful and rarely lethal. Additionally, airsoft guns use plastic projectiles, while air guns use metallic pellets and BBs. While air guns and airsoft guns can look similar, air guns are much more accurate, as they’re designed for activities like hunting, while airsoft guns are meant for recreation and competitive gaming.

What should I look for in an airsoft gun?

The features of your airsoft gun should match the activities you’ll be using it for. A spring-powered airsoft gun is a great option for beginners, as they only fire single shots, and are easy to maintain. An automatic electric gun is powered by batteries and are the most-commonly used guns by recreational airsoft competitors. These guns are easy to use and are usually able to be upgraded, whether a pistol or rifle. Whatever gun you choose, opt for one with high-quality plastic construction that also feels comfortable to use and transport.

Are airsoft guns legal?

As this varies from place to place, please refer to your local laws and regulations regarding airsoft guns before purchasing.
