No matter what fishing location you’re heading to, make sure to pack a life jacket, first aid kit, sunscreen, snacks and lots of water.

How long should the fishing rod be?

Picking out the right size rod for your child will help avoid tangled fishing lines, damages and more. If a fishing rod is too large, it’s likely that your child will have trouble holding it up and casting it properly. To make the learning curve a breeze, here are our size recommendations to consider when shopping for a kids fishing rod:

· Ages 3 to 5: 2 to 3 feet

· Ages 6 to 9: 4 to 5 feet

· Ages 10 to 14: 5 feet and longer

Is there other gear that should be brought along?

While choosing the right fishing rod is important, don’t forget to pair it with a kid-friendly tacklebox with smaller hooks and lighter tackles. This will lessen the chance of any accidents and make it easier for them to reel in a catch.
